1. How many students are in each class?
Each grade level is grouped into different sections. Average class size at the PK and K level never surpasses 25 pupils, and for the rest of the levels it never goes over 30. From PK to first grade, there are always two teachers in the classroom at all times.
2. Do you have a discipline policy?
We encourage students to acquire work habits and to have an orderly coexistence in an environment of general respect for one another as well as for the norms. We emphasize the importance of discipline and we foster the development of self-discipline.
Our objective is to help our students be aware of their own responsibilities and lead them to recognize the advantages that may come from respecting the rules that have been previously set up by the group, instead of limiting them by imposing such rules.
3. Do you have a Counseling Department?
Yes, we do have a highly-qualified staff in this Department. In coordination with the teaching staff, the services offered are: prevention, testing and solution of problems that may come up, either individually or as a group, during the educational process. Moreover, our Counseling Department organizes talks and orientation programs for parents and students, related to relevant and important issues of each period of development.
4. Do you offer an International Baccalaureate program?
Our unique academic program has many things in common with those high school programs offered by some institutions abroad, such as the Swiss International Baccalaureate Program, the French Baccaleauréat or the German Gymnasium. Some of the aspects these programs focus on are: cooperative work, research skills, study trips, community service activities and above all, a very demanding curriculum.
However, our academic program has been designed to meet the Peruvian standards and those of the higher education institutions where our students will study after they graduate from Trener. To this end, our senior students are guided along the process of college selection and application. So far, we are proud to say that all our students have been very successful. We have also had students who had to transfer to schools abroad or who left the country after graduating and all of them have been accepted in prestigious higher education institutions where they are currently studying and performing well, thanks to our demanding program.
The International Baccalaureate programs implemented by some local schools in Lima usually include an extra year of studies and have some requirements that may leave many students out of it, allowing only a few of them to take advantage of such programs. Our program, the regular PK-11, reaches out to every single student without making them postpone their college studies unnecessarily.
5. How are sports developed?
Psychomotricity and sports play an important role in our educational proposal. From the early years, we encourage an interest in the practice of a sport. Our students can participate in the ADECOPA championships, a school association to which we belong.
In primary, sport activities are carried out at the Monterrico premises. We also have a 23,000 m2 sports facility in Pachacamac that our high school students attend once a week for their Physical Education classes and workshops, such as Bio-orchard, Carpentry and Sculpture, among others. Recreational activities and sports games for our younger students and the Trener family in general are also organized and held in these facilities.
6. Do you have any extracurricular workshops?
Art, Music and Sports are considered within the curriculum, but for those students who want to, we offer workshops after school hours. In this way, each student can deeply explore the area he/she wishes to. Since workshops enrolment is optional, there is a fee to be paid.
7. Do you offer leveling courses?
We are involved at all times in helping our students overcome difficulties that may arise during their education. We are aware that our students may have a different learning pace and style and in order to meet their needs, we offer tailored leveling programs either in the classroom, as part of the regular classes or after school hours if extra work is required. For the latter, there is an extra fee to be paid.
8. Do you have an information technology course?
In the early years, the children use computers within the context of the different pedagogical activities and attend the computer laboratories on a regular basis. In this way, they work on specific objectives of the computer science area, which aims at developing the basic skills needed to do school work. Once in high school, our students add to this practice a weekly hour aimed at systematizing and deepening their knowledge in this area.
As a Microsoft Office Specialist Authorized Testing Center, we train, test and grant certification credentials that are recognized worldwide as proof that our students have the computing skills (Word, Excel, Power Point and Access) needed to work efficiently up to a Master level.
9. Do you teach Religion at Trener? Do your students make their First Communion?
A course of Catholic Religion is taught. In the third and fourth grades the program is centered around the preparation for the First Communion and in the tenth grade on the preparation for Confirmation. The area of religion develops and systematizes the Catholic Faith and contributes as an additional space for reflection to our interest in offering an education on values. Nevertheless, it is an activity that does not necessarily involve everyone in the class, since we are a non-religious school and being Catholic is not a requirement to be admitted.
10. Do you have a uniform policy?
Our students wear regular clothes to school. We do have a dress code and a uniform that is compulsory only for Physical Educational activities, sports events and other special occasions.
